HVAC SEO questions, answered honestly
The things contractors actually ask us on the first call, without the marketing language.
Getting started
How long does HVAC SEO take to work?
Map pack and local visibility usually shift first, often within the first couple of months, because profile and review signals respond faster than organic authority. Competitive organic terms take considerably longer, and how long depends on how old your domain is, how much content already exists and how strong the contractors above you are.
Is SEO better than Google Ads for an HVAC company?
They do different jobs. Ads buy you visibility today and stop the moment you stop paying. SEO takes months and then keeps producing. Most contractors we work with run both, using ads to cover the seasons where demand spikes faster than rankings can respond.
What if I only serve a small area?
That is usually good news. A tight service radius means fewer competitors and a much clearer path to the map pack. It also means we can write genuinely local content rather than generic town pages.
Do I need a blog?
You need content that answers what homeowners search before they call. Whether it sits in a blog or on your service pages matters less than whether it exists and whether it is published early enough in the season.
How search works for contractors
Why is my competitor ranking above me when their website is worse?
Usually reviews, profile age, or links. The map pack in particular does not care much about how nice a website looks. It cares about proximity, relevance and prominence, and prominence is largely reviews and citations.
Why does my ranking change depending on where I stand?
Local results are calculated from the searcher's location. You may be first in your own town and invisible three towns over. That is why we measure across a grid of locations rather than checking one ranking.
My Google Business Profile got suspended. Can it be recovered?
Often, yes. The most common causes are a service-area business showing an address it should not, category changes, or a name that includes keywords. Reinstatement means fixing the underlying cause and appealing with evidence.
Do reviews really matter that much?
For emergency and repair work, they are close to decisive. A homeowner with no heat is choosing between three map results, and the one with 300 reviews at 4.8 gets the call over the one with 40. Review velocity — how recently and consistently they arrive — matters as much as the total.
Working with us
Do you work with more than one contractor in the same city?
No. Taking two competing contractors in the same market means working against ourselves, and one of them always loses. We will tell you if your market is already taken.
Who owns the website and content?
You do, from day one. Everything is built in your accounts and your hosting, and nothing switches off if you stop working with us.
Can you work with our existing web developer?
Yes, and often that is the cheapest route. We can send prioritised change requests to whoever maintains your site instead of taking it over.
How do you report?
Monthly, in plain English: calls and forms from search, which pages produced them, what changed in rankings and what we are doing next. If you want the raw dashboards, you get those too.
What do you need from us?
Not much, but the things we do need matter: photos of real jobs, the occasional twenty minutes with a technician for a piece of content, and someone who will actually ask customers for reviews.
