HVAC local citation building
A citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number online. Inconsistency across them is a quiet, common reason local rankings stall.
Why old listings hurt
Most contractors have listings they have forgotten about, created by a previous marketer or by the directories themselves.
Old phone numbers and addresses persist. You moved premises in 2019 and eleven directories still show the old address. Each one is a small contradiction in what Google understands about your business.
Duplicates compete with each other. Two listings on the same directory, slightly different, splitting whatever authority either would have had.
Not all directories are worth the effort. Industry bodies, major aggregators and reputable local directories carry weight. Generic global submission services mostly do not, and paying for a thousand listings is money spent on nothing.
Consistency beats volume. Thirty accurate, relevant citations beat three hundred inconsistent ones every time.

How the cleanup runs
Unglamorous, finite work. Once it is done, it mostly stays done.
Audit
Every listing we can find, and every inconsistency in it. Usually more than the client expects.
Fix and remove
Correct what is wrong, remove duplicates, recover listings where the login is long gone.
Build what is missing
Core directories, industry bodies and reputable local listings that you should be on and are not.
Monitor
Directories change data on their own. Quarterly checks catch it before it spreads.
Questions about Citation building
How many citations do I need?
Accuracy matters far more than count. A few dozen correct, relevant citations on directories people and search engines actually use is the goal. Bulk submission packages promising hundreds are not worth buying.
Do citations still matter for local rankings?
They carry less weight than they did a decade ago, but consistency still matters, particularly for confirming your service area and contact details. Inconsistency actively hurts; excess volume does not help.
What is NAP consistency?
Name, address and phone number matching exactly everywhere they appear. Even small differences — Street versus St, a tracking number versus your real one — create ambiguity.
Should I use a citation management service?
The subscription tools are convenient and keep data synced, but they stop pushing your data if you cancel. We generally prefer to fix listings permanently at source, then monitor.
