HVAC on-page SEO

Your service pages are the highest-value pages on the site and usually the least attention has been paid to them.

The problem with most HVAC service pages

They read like a brochure written by the business, rather than an answer to what the person searching actually typed.

They are written for the business, not the search. A page headed “Our Air Conditioning Services” is competing against pages headed “AC Repair in [Town] — Same Day”. One matches what was typed. The other does not.

One page tries to cover everything. Repair, installation, maintenance and emergency work jammed into a single page means it ranks well for none of them. These are four different searches with four different intents.

They are thin. Two hundred words and a contact form. There is not enough there for Google to establish relevance, and not enough for a homeowner to decide to call.

Two pages compete with each other. An “AC repair” page and an “air conditioning repair” page splitting the same intent, so neither wins. We map every keyword to exactly one page and keep it that way.

How the work runs

Money pages first, then everything that supports them.

Week 1

Map keywords to pages

One primary keyword per page, no exceptions. Where two pages compete, one gets retargeted or the two get merged.

Weeks 2–4

Rewrite the money pages

Repair, installation, maintenance and emergency, each as its own page with its own intent and its own call to action.

Weeks 4–6

Structure and internal links

Headings that a snippet or AI answer can parse, and links that push authority towards the pages that convert.

Month 2

Supporting pages

Sub-services, brand pages and equipment pages where there is real search demand behind them.

Ongoing

Refresh

Seasonal pages updated ahead of season rather than during it.

Questions about On-page SEO

How long should a service page be?

Long enough to answer what a homeowner needs before calling and no longer. In practice that is usually somewhere between 700 and 1,500 words for a main service, but word count is an output of doing the job properly, not a target to hit.

Should I have a separate page for every brand I service?

Only for brands with real search demand and something distinct to say. A page per brand with the name swapped is the same duplicate content problem as cloned town pages.

What is keyword cannibalisation?

Two or more of your own pages competing for the same search. Google picks one, often the wrong one, and both rank worse than a single strong page would. It is extremely common on HVAC sites that have grown page by page over years.

Do I need to write for AI answers now as well?

The formatting that works for featured snippets — clear questions, direct answers, logical heading structure — is largely the same formatting that gets content quoted in AI-generated answers. We build pages that way as standard rather than treating it as a separate service.

Can you write the content, or do we?

We write it. We will ask for twenty minutes with a technician for anything technical, because the difference between copy written by someone who has been in a crawlspace and copy that has not is obvious to your customers.
